The interested party or any person authorized on their behalf.
To authorize another person to act on your behalf, you can appoint a representative through our Register of Powers of Attorney , selecting the procedure "Application for driving license exam", which is within the "Drivers" category .
If your representative is going to carry out the procedure in person, as an alternative to using the register of powers of attorney, they may appear with a DGT authorization form “Granting of representation” signed by the interested party, where they authorize them to make the request, and it is stated that it is free of charge.
Remember that, when requesting the appointment, you must indicate both the ID of the interested party and that of the authorized person who will carry out the procedure on your behalf.

You may have lost your right to drive, or in other words, the validity of your driver's license, for two reasons:
- Having lost all the points on your license after committing several serious or very serious traffic offenses.
- Due to a court sentence of deprivation of the right to drive for a period exceeding 2 years.
If the sentence is two years or less, the license is not lost, but temporarily suspended. In this case, to drive again, you only need to prove that you have successfully completed the 24-hour road safety awareness and re-education course (license recovery course) and have served the full sentence.
In the event of a driving license suspension (whether judicial or administrative) , if you wish to drive again, you must complete a road safety awareness and re-education course and pass a theory test on the course material. The test must be taken after the suspension period has expired: 6 months for general drivers and 3 months for professional drivers.
- Complete a course to recover your driving permit or license in road safety awareness and re-education , at the cost of the interested party, which will last twenty-four hours and can be completed during the period of the loss of validity.
- Pass a theory test on the course you completed. Once the validity period has expired (6 months for general drivers and 3 months for professional drivers), you must pass a theory test on the subject matter of the course you completed.
The new license you receive will have a balance of 8 points .
To take the test , in addition to everything indicated in the section 'What do you need?', you must present:
- Certification issued by the center where you received the course, stating that you have successfully completed the course to recover the permit or license, or a certificate stating that you have successfully completed the corresponding additional cycle, where applicable.
Each application entitles the applicant to three attempts to pass the knowledge test. This test will consist of answering a 30-question questionnaire on the topics covered in the road safety awareness and re-education courses.
To be eligible to take the first available exam session, you must have successfully completed the road safety awareness and re-education course. If you do not pass the exam on the first attempt, you must complete a four-hour training course at the same center where you took the road safety awareness and re-education course to be eligible to take the exam on the second or third attempt. The training course will cover the same material as the road safety awareness and re-education course, and the center will issue a certificate of completion, which you must present as a prerequisite for taking the exam.
For more information on how to recover points, the content of the re-education courses, their price and more information, you can consult the " recover your points" section on our website .
It is possible to obtain driving licenses of type C, C+E, D1, D1+E, D, and D+E at a younger age than the minimum . To do so, in addition to everything indicated in the 'What do you need?' section, you must submit the following documentation:
- Driver qualification card.
- Certificate of Professional Aptitude (CAP) or failing that, a certificate from the training course or a certificate from the training center indicating the initial qualification modality: ordinary or accelerated.
